“When was Halesowen Football Club formed?” - Yeltzmen History Series

Benjamin Bullock

Title: “When was Halesowen Football Club formed?”

Lecturer: Benjamin Bullock

Host: Matthew Ponter

Date: Sunday 3rd January 2020, 7:30pm

Description:

Halesowen Town Football Club is delighted to present the first in a series of lectures on the history of the Yeltz - and where better to start than the beginning?

The formation of Halesowen FC has long been contested by fans and local historians. The consensus since the Second World War has been that the club, originally the James Grove Button Factory, was first established in 1873. However, new evidence presented in the book Yeltzmen: A History of Halesowen Town FC, 1873-2020 has cast doubt on this narrative.

In this mini-lecture and Q&A session, Ben Bullock will delve into the existing formation story, explore the new evidence, and explain why he believes 1877 to be the true date of establishment for Halesowen FC, as well as de-bunking other myths and rumours along the way. Join us virtually at 7:30pm on Sunday 3rd January, everybody is welcome. Up the Yeltz!
