Dan Platt Becomes Most Featured Goalkeeper in Yeltz History

Halesowen custodian breaks 39-year-old record previously held by Phil Coldicott

Yeltz custodian Dan Platt set a new record in our game against AFC Telford United to become the most featured goalkeeper in Halesowen Town history.

Platt made his 336th competitive appearance on Monday, breaking a record set 39 years ago by legendary keeper Phil Coldicott.

“10 years on, 336 games later, uh, it's been a been a long time. I was here when we only had a couple of hundred fans coming through the door, and where we are at now, it just shows how far the club has come.”

“It’s been amazing to hear from players and fans too. I remember playing in the last preseason game when I joined and knocked four teeth out, and the supporters rallied together and raised some money to help pay for them. I think that was the catalyst for my affiliation with the football club.”

Platt made his competitive debut in September 2015 and quickly became then-manager John Hill’s first choice between the sticks. He was named Player of the Season in 2017/18 and stayed with the club for four years before leaving to join Bromsgrove Sporting in 2019.

He returned to the Grove just two years later and has featured in almost every game since. In that time, he has captained the team on 51 occasions and, in December 2023, overtook Joe Harper to move up into second on the all-time goalkeeper appearances list.

This season, the 33-year-old keeper has made 44 appearances and kept 14 clean sheets. He has also been awarded Man of the Match on two occasions this year, taking his total up to 12 (tied for fourth in the list of all-time MOTM awards).

With this latest achievement, Platt leapfrogs long-time record holder Phil Coldicott, who made 335 appearances between 1971 and 1986. Coldicott played several stints for the Yeltz in the 1970s and 80s, amassing 335 recorded appearances which included two FA Vase finals in 1983 and 1985.
